Welcome home.
York newborn photography
From experience, I know that you’ll take so many pictures of your family. As they change and grow, the camera will help you grasp them in time. It is far harder to build a family album that keeps everyone in the picture. During newborn photography sessions, I take the mental load and you can take some time to just be yourselves, in your home, and be present.
Newborn sessions are far easier than you can imagine. We’ll chat about anything and everything: the spaces you’re happy to use, the box sets you’re watching through the night feeds, the random things that come to mind as we potter around.
I don’t pose babies. When I join you in your home, I work with your family as they are. Whether you’re settling into the early days of a firstborn or refereeing the chaos of a houseful and a dog, I meet you where you are. It’s life as you know it right now, time that will never be the same again, and I’ll make sure you don’t miss it.
Whether you’re bringing your first baby home, or you’re adding another to your team, I’m here to make sure you’re all in the picture.
Newborn photography sessions usually last around an hour, but are led by what you and your family need at the time.
They take place in your home, but if you have another location in mind then I’m more than happy to chat about how to make that work.
Everyone is welcome - bigger kids, family pets, grandparents if they’re passing through. The people around you right now are an important part of your baby’s story.
Sarah was absolutely amazing during our newborn family photo shoot. With a newborn and a 3-year-old, we weren’t sure how it would all go, but Sarah made the whole experience feel so relaxed and natural.
She was fantastic with our big girl, making sure she felt included throughout the shoot while also recognising when she needed a little break. There was no pressure at all, and the whole session felt really laid-back, which allowed Sarah to capture our family exactly as we are — the real, raw and beautiful moments of family life.
We absolutely love the photos and couldn’t recommend Sarah highly enough. We’ll definitely be updating our family album with her over the years and can’t wait to see her capture our family as it grows.
Thank you so much again, Sarah! 🤍
Do we need a really tidy house?
(and other questions…)
When you’ve just had a baby, the last thing you need to be worrying about is tidying the house. There’s a happy balance between photographing things as they are right now, and moving some of the random stuff that gathers on the bedside tables and the end of the sofa.
Once we’ve decided which rooms you’re happy to use, I’ll have a quick look to see if there’s anything that needs shifting, and that’s the long and short of it.
Sometimes people ask about what to wear.
It’s all personal, but I would always say that being comfortable will give you the best photos. You’ll look and feel as much like yourself as is possible at this time. Dress for you, not for anyone or anything else.
What about our toddler or our preteen?
I will always make a special effort to make sure they feel both included in the session, but not pressured to perform. Let them come and go, and also have a bit of time if they want to be photographed in their space, with their things. I’ll work with them to make sure they know they’re a big part of it, in a way that works for them.
