If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know I suffer from the September feels hitting big. Even though I don’t work in academic years anymore, I still seem to function in them and there isn’t much I can do about it. Given it’s easier to just go with it and lean in, that must mean it’s time to chat about the joy of an autumn family session. Every season has its minute for me. There’s reason to love them all. But if one just gets that little edge, it has to be Autumn. Everything just goes cinematic for a while and I’m here for it. Low light, deep colours and that sort of edgy feeling in the air that pushes us to move and take opportunities, before the cold times come and we bed in.
Autumn family photography sessions have that extra bit of magic, because the outside world is giving ‘look at me’ and just being around it is enough. Team that up with cosy knits and bright wellies and the aesthetic is peak. I do love a strong aesthetic, obviously, but this season gives us something deeper. After a summer that often includes travel and juggle and long sweaty evenings, it encourages us to gravitate towards that feeling of being grounded with each other. Getting outside just to be is often enough, and it’s a great time to update your family album.
Family photography sessions for me are often nothing more complicated than a walk together. I work with your team to find ways to get you all in the picture without it being a stress. I see it as my job to facilitate your session in a way that makes you feel like you just had a morning out with your family, and then you found yourself in some photos of that experience. No having to ask to get in the picture, no wishing someone would just catch you being with your kids, absolutely no mental load for you at all. I’ve got you.
There are some gorgeous locations in and beyond York that make for stunning backdrops. Whether you want somewhere small, familiar, and local, or you’d prefer to take it somewhere more open, we’ll make a plan to get you all in the picture. Family sessions are about you guys doing something you would have done anyway, but with me along for the ride.
